Jessie Brown

Jessica Brown

Jessie is a recent graduate of the Jackson School of International Studies at UW in 2004 and has volunteered with CEN since September 2004 where she has performed a variety of duties, including helping to define our mentorship program, a variety of marketing functions and managing our Indian integrated micro-entrepreneur development initiative.

Jessie is passionate about CEN's mission. When asked why she works with CEN she passionately states, "Where a person happens to be born in the world should not determine that they are destined to a life in poverty. But it does. Rural communities in developing countries are denied opportunities to pursue their own dreams. In the world we live in, where so much is possible, the rest of us have a responsibility to change this and I want to be a part of that change. These core beliefs were true 3 years ago when I started volunteering with CEN and they will be true in another 3 years and in 53 years."

Jessie has also interned with both Unitus and Trickle up, focusing on their micro-finance programs. She recently returned from an internship in Burkino Faso where she was helped Trickle Up expand their micro-finance program there. Jessie also spent six months in Senegal where she assisted with development work and drafting grant proposals, conducting case studies of a village empowerment program and wrote donor project reports.

In October 2007, Jessie began a two year Mphil (Master of Philosophy) in Development Studies at Oxford University in the UK, where she is now living.
