Kristin Wieben

Kristin WiebenKristin is a graduate student at the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Affairs, where she is studying non-profit management and international development. She wants to start her own non-profit after she graduates and is currently serving as CEN's Executive Intern.

Kristin first became interested in development issues while volunteering at an orphanage in rural Nepal. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities available to the children and villages with which she worked, Kristin is drawn to CEN's work because of its focus on helping similar communities to become self-reliant. Because she believes that "development" is not something that can be imposed from the outside and that people and communities should be able to determine their own destinies, CEN's focus on empowerment resonates deeply with her.

Prior to returning to school, Kristin also worked at the American Red Cross in Seattle, where she worked with the organization's brand-new young professionals group and gained event-planning experience. As an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Kristin studied English and political science. When she's not studying, Kristin enjoys climbing, skiing, reading, and traveling.
