Grant and Proposal Writer
Position Summary
Although we have identified numerous potential grants, we have a big bottleneck actually writing and submitting project and grant proposals. We are looking for someone who is an articulate writer to help write proposals to help secure funding for our exciting international development projects. The volunteer could normally work from home on his or her own schedule, and then collaborate with project staff to write and revise proposals. This position offers an opportunity to learn more about exciting places, such as the Brazilian Amazon and India, as well as have deep impact on a young organization.Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with program staff to fine tune/adapt our proposal to the specific needs of the prospective donor;
- Help establish contact and relationships with potential donors; and
- Submit grant proposals and letters of inquiry.
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed
- Track record in obtaining grants in the past, particularly for international projects. We would consider candidates who are very seriously looking to gain experience for to further their career;
- Having established relationships - or at least strong familiarity with specific requirements - with appropriate prospective donors would be a major plus;
- Strong writing skills are essential; and
- Some experience in developing countries would be very helpful in order to better be able to relate to our work.
Please be able to commit a minimum average of 8 hours per month.
This is a "virtual" team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location.
Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community. We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.
